The ground shakes and trembles as trees and vines cover the factory in green until there are no bricks visible.

Then with a quiet shift that gods have ever been good at, there is nothing but plants as the bricks crumble into the earth.

Demeter stands watching, her eyes potent and not here as she glows briefly and finally can breath again.

When the earth has stopped shifting, she moves to Malcolm and simply hugs him.

Malcolm knows when he's beat. "Yes, ma'am."

"So when was the last time you were here?"

"Oh my, I'm not sure."

She grabs his hand and pulls him towards the nearby market,

"We're going to get dinner and you need a better outfit."

"Now that sounds like a plan. I've missed the food from here, ever since we visited last time."

"I always have good plans."

He gets another kiss before being pulled into a clothing shop where Demeter starts talking quickly in Greek to the owner. In a few moments, Malcolm's arms are full of lots of clothing,

"Go try those on for me."

Malcolm eyes a couple of the items doubtfully, but he knows better than to say anything. Instead, he just gives her a grin and heads for the changing room.

...To emerge still wearing the straw hat, but now also a rather alarmingly brief pair of shorts, a garish shirt in the style of the Greek flag, and unbelievably American looking sneakers.

The grin's still there, but it might be a slightly more forced than it was a moment ago.

Demeter helpfully gooses him and grins,

"Its a start. We'll get those and then find something else in a different place."

"A start? A start of what?" Malcolm asks, but Demeter is already on her way, so he gives the ceiling a plaintive look and heads off after her.

Come to think of it. Nobody up there is going to help anyway. They're all probably on her side.

Not all of them just most of them, she looks up from where she's talking to the shopkeeper in Greek and collecting a few more things for him,

"Just a start. I think we're all ready."

"Anything you say, my love," Malcolm replies. Fortunately, as a psychiatrist, he knows when he's got the weaker hand.

"So where are we going? Is there a special beach around here you like?"

"Oh yes and a house that we can use."

Soon they're in the middle of the crowd who have just docked from a huge cruise ship, Malcolm blends right in.

"A house? Nice."

Malcolm eyes the crowd around them and grins. "I haven't been in this much sun around this many people in.... Well, ever, really."

"See, this is good for you."

She's grinning and kisses him before pulling him towards a cafe that's almost falling into the water.

"Whoa, wait," Malcolm says, gently nudging her back. "Is that thing even safe?"

Falling into the water is right. Malcolm's seen rope bridges in movies that were more stable.

"Shush, of course it is, this place has been here for decades."

The owner who is one of those amazingly compact and strong Greek fisherman takes Demeter's hands and then kisses her and starts talking rapidly in Greek.

She answers back and shows off Malcolm, the owner somehow doesn't laugh and then they're given the best seat in the house, its over the water.

"Yeah, it looks like it," Malcolm smirks, feeling very American at the moment. But the smell from the kitchen has already won him over, and the chairs turn out to be more comfortable than they look.

He settles into his with a happy sigh.

Soon the food begins to appear, all of the various sea creatures they can watch being caught and Demeter just beams at Malcolm,

"You're already looking happier."

"I'm feeling happier," he grins. "Just don't tell me what this is. It's amazing, and I don't think I want to know."

"I don't need to tell you, you've been watching it being caught."

"Wait, this--," Malcolm points, "--Is that?" Malcolm points again.

"Ugh."

"Well. It still tastes good," he insists to himself.

Now she just laughs and they're brought over two glasses of ouzo,

"Drink that."

"Oh, good," Malcolm says with relief, and downs the glass.

His face mushes as it goes down, and then relaxes with happy. "Ahhh."

"And his wife makes wonderful baklava for dessert."

"I'm telling you right now, Sweetheart. I'm not moving from this seat until I get some."

Malcolm draws the line!

She just laughs and says something in Greek and then the wife who is also rather compact, kisses Malcolm on the lips and presents him with lots of baklava.

By this point, Malcolm will accept baklava from whoever's offering.

And then, after all that baklava, there's yet more ouzo.


He's starting to seriously love this country.
