The flowers bent away from Demeter as she tugged at weeds and muttered to herself in various languages until her daughter stood behind her and said, "Go someplace else. I can hear you in my garden and all the plants are worried."

Demeter sat on her heels to look at Kore, "Fine, I'll go for a walk, but this isn't right. I shouldn't have to change."

"I know and you don't have to but you're going to cause a storm at this rate," Under her daughter's gaze, Demeter stood up, dusted the dirt off her hands and started walking. Kore sighed as she watched her go, this all felt too familiar.

Demeter walked from garden to field to garden until she was sitting beside a fountain in a courtyard in another part of France. The walk had helped but she still hated the situation, she shouldn't have to do anything for Teja who misunderstood and then pronounced judgement and won't consider that he's wrong. He can miss her all he likes.

"I know you didn't. I put myself in it, because he was being unfair to you and others. I wouldn't mind it so much if I felt that anything was going to change. Teja used to be more understanding, this whole mess feels wrong to me,"

It scared her to see Teja not listen and ignore what she knows.

"It feels wrong to me as well, but I didn't know him before all this. Is he acting against his character?"

So far as Orpheus can tell, his character is spiteful, ignorant, and stubborn, but he supposes he may not be the best judge of it.

"Yes and no, he's always been quick to judge and hard to shift but not this cruel about it. I know that he's had lovers in Milliways that have left but he's a musician himself. He talked of dark feelings that should stay hidden and shame and chastised me for saying Christians created it. Well, they did and he's never liked them and bringing Carlotta in to say, now we don't say bad things about her religion. He kept treating me as if I couldn't understand what had happened, it was insulting. When he first arrived, he had to learn that his feelings weren't shameful, now I don't know."

"Perhaps he's come to wish he still felt that shame?" Orpheus suggests. It seems the only logical reason why he'd so adamantly insist on keeping them repressed.

"And you're right. Christians did create that shame, at least to the level that he seems to speak of it. Though he did say his men considered it unmanly as well."

"But that was his men and years ago. I thought he considered himself more of Milliways. Also that's stupid, who a man loves doesn't change who he is."

"No, of course not," Orpheus says. "And you'd know him better than I would. But...it isn't always so easy to change your thoughts on those things."

He has a little problem with that himself.

"No, its not, but I thought he had and I don't know why he chose you. I understand feeling protective, that's what I do, but I also learn,"

Not easily at times but she does.

"He did seem to have it in for me. I can't imagine I've garnered that much of a reputation around the bar. Certainly not for what he was accusing me of."

"Maybe I should talk with security after all..."

He had wanted to let it go, but if Demeter is still wrapped up in it all, that changes things.

"I'll come with you if you want," She's wrapped up in an odd way as well.

He nods. "That might help. I don't really know who to talk to, and who knows what he's said to them to escape retribution."

"Perhaps Belar, he's always seemed understanding."

"I said something to him already," Orpheus says, frowning a bit. "He was the one who took care of all this in the first place. But I suppose speaking to him again couldn't hurt."
